< hm...alone? okay, then time to find a new buddy! >

[the traveler has appeared on the edge of town along the road. anyone in the surrounding buildings may have heard it chirping and calling out as it runs toward the town square. and anyone it encounters along the way will have a close to three foot tall red cloaked creature running circles around them.

[It keeps moving forward, calling back if Loki calls to it, but for now it is focused on getting toward the mountain. Even if Loki cannot fly, he seems to be keeping up.

After passing through another clearing, it dives into the bushes and tries to trudge its way through.]

[Loki keeps up the occasional call back and forth, like a call and response, a way to keep track of the little creature.

He notices, the longer it flies, he feels a bit of his internal power coming back.

He catches up to the Traveler, slipping through the bushes in a way that's a bit unnatural, and touches its back again, seeing if he can give it a bit more power again.]

♩!

[it stops when it feels the touch at its back and chirps loudly, sending out a wave of power. if Loki is going to charge its scarf, it will do the same!]

♩!

[If only Loki had a scarf, but still no.

Still he smiles, appreciating the effort.]

[walk walk walk. the traveler, pushed by memories of a different place, keeps trudging through the forest, bumping into bushes and past trees until it finally gets tangled into a low shrubbery. this is...so much harder............

it stops and flops forward, hanging on the bush.]

[Loki follows along. When the Traveler stops, he hesitates for a moment, then picks it up and sets it on his shoulders as he would a child.]

♩♩?

[WHOA I'M TALL. I'M SO TALL. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOA

up on his shoulders, the traveler chirps once or twice and then goes quiet, swinging its legs happily where it sits]

[Loki smiles. This seems to be working nicely. He makes certain the Traveler isn't going to fall off, and then continues on in the direction they were headed.]

[it swings its legs, trilling as they walk and then it notices that the mountain is getting closer, but to their right. it turns its head that way and chirps]

[Loki notices the shift in the Traveler's slight weight. He turns that way... ah, a mountain. Well, all right. He heads toward it.]

[the mountain is far in the distance, but the traveler has seen further. it has traveled many long distances to get to the mountain and as long as Loki is willing, it will travel with him. it goes quiet, looking up at the mountain as it peeks over the trees.

so close and yet...not the same.]

[Loki continues walking, steps quick and pace steady. He wonders what the little creature finds so fascinating about the mountain, but he has no way of asking.

It'll take a while to walk the distance, but he doesn't tire easily. Curiosity is more than enough to drive him to keep walking for hours.]

[When they approach the foot of the mountain, the traveler starts kicking its legs a little more excitedly and flaps its cloak, rising off Loki's shoulders and gliding to the ground.

the Elders didn't leave visions here, but it had to be the same thing, right? It had to be!

it turns in a circle and looks at Loki, then starts running up the mountainside.]

[Well, they're here. Why the little creature wanted to come to a mountain, he still has no idea. It's an interesting question, to be sure.

He tilts his head curiously when the Traveler looks at him, then follows it up the mountainside. Considering the height difference, it's not difficult to keep up with it.]

[HNNNNGH!!! running up the side of this mountain is a lot harder than it looks. but the trial is the important thing! the traveler trudges up the side of the mountain, continuing forward until it begins to reach the peak.

and then something doesn't seem right.

no snow?

the traveler stops, looking around confused.]

[Even Loki is feeling a bit tired by the time they reach to the top of the mountain.

He pauses, panting, and watches the little creature run around, not able to tell what it's looking for.]/small>

♩?

[it's so confusing. it doesn't seem like home at all.

the traveler ruffles its cloak and runs in a wide circle, checking the area out before finally getting frustrated and flopping down onto its face.]

[Well, that answers no questions at all. But the creature is plainly distressed. Loki crouches down by it and gently pats its head.]

[it would sing to him, but being on its face makes that difficult. the scarf waves in the air lazily instead, tapping lightly against Loki's wrist. it must be the wrong mountain, but how could there be a wrong one?

it doesn't understand and that just makes everything so unhappy.

after a moment, the traveler climbs to its feet and shakes]

[and then it runs off into the bushes. it will find the right mountain and come back for you, Loki!]

[Loki stares after the little creature. He makes a token attempt to follow, but this entire afternoon has been incredibly surreal.

He sits down on a fallen tree and reads for a bit, then gives up and goes home, in search of tea.]
