[the traveler has appeared on the edge of town along the road. anyone in the surrounding buildings may have heard it chirping and calling out as it runs toward the town square. and anyone it encounters along the way will have a close to three foot tall red cloaked creature running circles around them.

[Another hum, half for the traveler's sake, and half to give himself a moment's thought, then he smiles faintly.]

You're about as short as a hobbit, even if you barely have any feet... so unless you've got something better, I'll just call you Pippin. He liked to sing, and he was my favourite... um... whatever, it's not that geeky. --Any protests?

the traveler stops pipping and looks up at billy, tilting its head to one side. what is the stranger doing? it looks down at its cloak and then up at billy, then tries to waggle the cloak like he's waving the arms of his hoodie.

okay, no more trying. that is hard. it gives up and swirls its cloak instead, takes a step forward and falls flat on its face onto the ground.]

[Oh geez. He's not sure if that was just a silly thing it does or it's actually hurt, so Billy hefts himself off the bench and crouches down next to the cloth creature, prodding it cautiously.]

Uh... you okay?

[after being prodded, it climbs back to its feet and turns to billy. now that he's down on its level, it leans forward to nuzzle his cheek.
