[the traveler has appeared on the edge of town along the road. anyone in the surrounding buildings may have heard it chirping and calling out as it runs toward the town square. and anyone it encounters along the way will have a close to three foot tall red cloaked creature running circles around them.

[Lupin should not have been as happy as he was. He reached out and drew similarly:

[And it keeps drawing the hearts, one of the few symbols it knows well before turning a circle and coming back to Lupin.]

[Lupin echoed it, all the while wondering what it was really trying to say.]

[It was an experiment--random notes pulled together into an impromptu song. Above all...

it was fun.]

[the traveler sings back, running around Lupin]

[With that string of notes, Lupin had no choice but to sing the a few verses from the first song that came to mind.]

A crazy sound, a lonely sound

[songs! the traveler starts chirping at Lupin, turning a circle around him.]

Oh? You like that?

[Grinning, Lupin continued.]

It's telling me
to hold you tight
and dance like it's the last night of the world

[It was a mimicry of the melody, Lupin noticed, and the fact tickled him to no end.]

[Lupin laughed at the perfectly on-pitch mimic of the classic broadway tune.]

We're going to need to watch some musicals, aren't me Ami?

[There isn't anymore singing so the traveler is quiet, looking up at Lupin. Musicals and such are beyond its comprehension, but it will probably be v. v. noisy.]

[Lupin returned the gaze, something clicking in his mind.]

Music and song is all you know, isn't it?

[Music, song and pictures. The traveler cocks its head in the other direction, still looking at Lupin silently.]

...I'm going to need to show you my viola sometime, aren't I?

[Yes, but. ...what is it? The traveler doesn't know and it's getting antsy just standing around, so it chirps at Lupin.]

[It was his name again. Kind of.]

Yes, Ami? Do you need a place to stay?

♪♪♪　♪　♪　♪

[it lets out a loud shout at the end and then runs by Lupin and heads to the edge of the woods where it stands, waiting for him]

[It moved faster than Lupin would have liked, especially with how rattled he had been. Thanks to certain affairs back in June, even simple things like walking or running took a degree of concentration. Such a thing was a commodity at that point.

But he felt a little better after playing with his strange little friend, and pulled himself back to his feet.]

Coming, Ami. I can't go so fast right now.

[If the traveler gets to far ahead, it doubles back and runs to Lupin, keeping close, thinking that maybe his legs are powered by energy like its scarf. If he starts slowing, it will huddle close and chirp at him, breaking away only if he regains his balance and walks faster.]

♪～

[Lupin did manage to pick up the pace, a little. Taking his time meant that he didn't get as tired later on, which was a better thing in the long run. But the little guy's attention was heart warming in a way that Lupin loved.

Thanks, Ami~ I'm sorry, but I don't know how to explain all of this.

[No need for explaining. the traveler wouldn't really understand anyway.

it gets to a clearing and stops, looking around. what is this plaaaaaaace?

..where are the moooooountaaaaaains?]

[It's confusion was equally endearing.]

We're still in the woods, little guy, but not far from our little village.

[and there were mountains on the other side of the enclosure, as it would notice once they reached the plaza.]
