< hm...alone? okay, then time to find a new buddy! >

[the traveler has appeared on the edge of town along the road. anyone in the surrounding buildings may have heard it chirping and calling out as it runs toward the town square. and anyone it encounters along the way will have a close to three foot tall red cloaked creature running circles around them.

Loki hesitantly rests his hand on the little creature for the moment. Perhaps he should put it away, but he finds he doesn't want to, not at all.

He glances at Adele as she moves, a quick, wary flick of his gaze, but he tells himself to just let it go. Nothing will be gained by sharpening his temper on Adele. Though he must be more careful now, because weaknesses revealed are fodder for attack.

He smiles again at the sounds the traveler makes. He's still not certain what it's asking, but it isn't as if he has other matters pressing on him today. He answers with a note of assent, a little bow as if he's asking the creature to lead the way. ]

[It's so...sweet. Even with the apparent wariness in Loki. Wariness she put there by witnessing this- it'd probably have been better if she'd kept on and not watched in the first place.

That's not something she can change, but she does hang back by the tree. Watches Loki's gentle affection and marvels at it just a little. This wasn't in any of the myths. Not something she'd seen hints of in their few conversations. She's not certain what to make of it.

All she can do is observe without judgment, and smile.]

[It looks up at Loki and bobs its head. Yes, it can lead! Loki must be a new traveler. It would explain his difference. The traveler is seasoned. It can show the way.]

[It trills and starts to head off in the direction of the forest, not quite sure where to go, but knowing it should be where the mountains are.]

[Loki glances over his shoulder once, wariness falling away to be replaced with puzzlement, as if he's not sure what to make of Adele or her smile.

But the Traveler is moving, and he doesn't want to be left behind. He wants to see where the creature will go, and understand]

[His long strides help him keep pace easily.]

[the traveler doesn't worry about Loki keeping up. it knows the Other will stay and if it doesn't, then it will call to it. they are together now and that is all the traveler needs to know.

chirping, it weaves among the trees, trying to find a clearing so it can climb a hill and find the mountain.]

[Loki watches the way the Traveler moves, trying to understand what it might be looking for. Perhaps it wants to look around better, he thinks. Trying to get a better lay to the land. He has a feel for where they are and calls for the Traveler's attention, heading a bit more west where there is a clearing - the one in which he arrived.]

[This is... fun. He's not going to question it.]

[Loki changes direction and the traveler turns and follows after him, keeping close in case he needs his scarf recharged.]

[He feels an odd sort of relief when the little creature follows him. Almost an afterthought, he adds an encouraging little note.]

[He guides the Traveler to the clearing, not far from the stream and pauses.]

♪♪♪?

[A clearing! The traveler runs ahead and takes in the area, looking for a way to get up above the trees. It sees a log and climbs up onto it, looking around.]

[It chirps to Loki and jumps up and down on the log.]

<join me! join me!>

[He doesn't need to speak the language to understand that! Loki takes a quick glance around to make certain there isn't anyone else spying. Then he abandons the worry about looking foolish for a moment and joins the Traveler on the log.

It doesn't really improve the view. Of course it wouldn't. He considers the situation; in the surreal moment, it all seems logical enough. He crouches down and cocks his head.

The Traveler can always climb on his shoulders, after all.]

[Since Loki is offering! The traveler climbs up on his knee and then up onto his shoulder - surprisingly light - and the contact makes its cloak glow softly. It looks around, chirping, as it tries to find the mountain.]

[Loki steadies the Traveler lightly with one hand and then rises to his feet. Have an extra six feet of height, buddy.]

♪?

[whooooooooooooooooooooooooooa high!

the traveler chirps and then looks around, turning its head this way and that. the green fluffy things here are so tall! it's hard to see, but somewhere, far in the distance, the traveler can see a peak. it isn't glowing, but it's a start. tilting its head back, it lets out a large soundwave burst.]

♩～

[Loki keeps track of the direction the Traveler is looking. Toward the mountains? Though there are, if he recalls correctly, quite a few mountains.

The sound is another matter entirely. He doesn't know what it might mean.]

♩?

♩~!

[It repeats the burst of sound and then hops down from Loki's shoulder, looking at his clothes.

why aren't they glowing? It circles around him once, climbing up and down from the log, and then repeats the sound.]

♩~!

[Obviously the Traveler thinks that something is amiss, and something with Loki in particular, but he can't quite divine what it is yet. He stands still and lets the little creature circle him, watching intently.

What is the matter, though? He's used to being a source of consternation, but not quite like this.]

♪?

[It finds Loki's back and notices there is no scarf, then chirps again. Without a scarf, how will Loki fly?]

♪!

[It turns to show Loki its scarf and the glowing glyphs 'painted' upon it.]

[Loki lightly touches the Traveler's scarf again, tracing the new glyphs.

Perhaps the creature thinks he ought to have a scarf. Unfortunately, he never has had such a thing. He can fly if he needs to, by levitating, but it's a rather exhausting prospect. Really, he'd be just as far ahead running on the ground.

So perhaps the Traveler could fly and Loki could follow, so long as it didn't fly too quickly.]

<We'll find you a scarf!>

[the traveler whips around and nudges its face against Loki's fingertips, then jumps over the log and starts running into the forest.]

[Well, the Traveler seems to have come to some sort of decision. Too bad Loki has no idea what it is.

Amused, he gets up and follows the Traveler, keeping up easily. Those long legs are good for something, and he's good at running. He just normally chooses to not.]

[It keeps moving forward, calling back if Loki calls to it, but for now it is focused on getting toward the mountain. Even if Loki cannot fly, he seems to be keeping up.

After passing through another clearing, it dives into the bushes and tries to trudge its way through.]

[Loki keeps up the occasional call back and forth, like a call and response, a way to keep track of the little creature.

He notices, the longer it flies, he feels a bit of his internal power coming back.

He catches up to the Traveler, slipping through the bushes in a way that's a bit unnatural, and touches its back again, seeing if he can give it a bit more power again.]

♩!

[it stops when it feels the touch at its back and chirps loudly, sending out a wave of power. if Loki is going to charge its scarf, it will do the same!]

♩!

[If only Loki had a scarf, but still no.

Still he smiles, appreciating the effort.]

[walk walk walk. the traveler, pushed by memories of a different place, keeps trudging through the forest, bumping into bushes and past trees until it finally gets tangled into a low shrubbery. this is...so much harder............

it stops and flops forward, hanging on the bush.]
