[the traveler has appeared on the edge of town along the road. anyone in the surrounding buildings may have heard it chirping and calling out as it runs toward the town square. and anyone it encounters along the way will have a close to three foot tall red cloaked creature running circles around them.

[Spock cannot help but wonder....]

Is that mountain in this world small one?

It is where I must be.

[It doesn't know if it is here. This world is so different from everything it knows. No sand, no snow, strange greenery and soft spongy brown underneath. Nothing makes sense here.]

You are like me. We are alike?

[Spock sees the images and can tell that no, that mountain is not here. He does not know what to say to Traveler... it is not unlike dealing with a small child.]

That place is not here. You must wait until you are sent back to your world... the symbols are not here at this time.]

[There are comparisons.... however they are definitely not 'alike', however, Spock feels as though this would not be the right way to answer.]

We are... alike is some ways small one. However, I am Vulcan.

[Spock shows him impressions of his planet and his people...]

[Vulcan. The impressions come through loud and clear, but the traveler still isn't convinced they aren't alike. It sends back images of its home - so similar to Vulcan in some ways, and then images of the two of them there in the forest, far away from home and alone.]

We are the same.

[What an fascinating perspective that this creature has... in this way, yes, they are the same.]

It would seem small one, that we are the same in this respect.

[Spock gives what would seem to be a mental smile...]

We are the same. We are travelers.

[Suddenly an image of the desert, the traveler sitting alone in the sand, traveling alone across the hot dunes, looking for someone to be with.]

[It must be his human side, but Spock is suddenly compelled to do this...he hums in the same pitch as the traveler.]

[The traveler responds with the same sound and rubs its face against Spock's hand.]

[Spock starts to hum a tune his mother used to sing to him when he was a child. He also moves his other hand to stroke the travelers head.]

[After a few bars, the traveler starts to mimic the song as best it can, trying to do what Spock is doing.]

[Spock sends a wave of gratefulness through the link. He finds that he is rather...enjoying himself.]

What is family?

[It doesn't understand aside from what it's seen of Spock's family.]

Perhaps it is your 'Other?' Are there many Others?

We are all travelers.

[A cycle of different people - each cloak and symbol different, but in some repeating patterns. They only meet once, travel to the mountain and then never see each other again.]

[Spock considers something that might make Traveler... feel better.]

[This is exciting. It wants to see what worlds are out there, what other journeys can be made.]

Indeed, prepare yourself small one.

[Spock delves deeper into the meld and brings Traveler into his mind. They are now standing in the middle of a hot, rocky desert. The two suns are at their peak and not far into the distance lies a mountain range. Spock flaps his now usable wings... we are in his mind, here he can fly...
Spock makes a gesture to the landscape around him....]

Well, what is your opinion?

[oh! again! this is the second time the traveler has suddenly and abruptly left its world and found itself somewhere entirely new. it looks around itself and then up at Spock who is flying and starts to run toward the mountain range far in the distance. it knows what to do here and it knows that Spock is its Other now.]

[It has been awhile since Spock has indulged like this.... however, he does find this experience to be rather exhilarating. He is...content that Traveler seems to be enjoying himself.]

We are nearing the mountain, are you unable to fly small one?

[chirpchirp]

[nope! it can fly, it just doesn't always fly. when it reaches the crest of an outcropping of rock, the traveler flaps its wings and sails into the sky - glyphs on its scarf glowing and gradually winking out]

Flight. Borrowed from cloth. No longer white cloak, cannot fly long.

You are in my conscious reality small one. Here you have sustained flight... let us go to the top of the mountain.

[Spock angles up and heads towards the peak.]

But the trials?

[There had always been trials. Things to do, things to see, experiences necessary.

The traveler alights and looks up at Spock.]

I must learn.

[Spock can understand the need to learn, however he was unsure of how to comply with Traveler's request.... perhaps a distraction then.]

I propose a race to the top of the mountain. Are you amenable?

[chirpchirp]

what is a race?

[it does not comprehend the idea of competition, only cooperation and tilts its head at Spock]

[How would his Captain word this... would his Captain word this at all? Spock instead flies over to traveler, grabs the end of his scarf and flies toward the top of the mountain, a half-smile on the whole way. Through the link he sends a feeling of adventure and fun.]
